So, I took a week off.

Last week hit me like a ton of bricks. I had an exam and I had a midterm research paper that was worth 20% of my final grade and I had EIGHT (yes, E I G T H) hours worth of yearbook meetings and apparently my lack of an immune system that likes to fight diseases decided that that was the time to let a virus attack every inch of my body. I had work and school and play and my blog did not come first.
I didn't plan to take a week off from my blog, but I did. I blogged on Monday and I blogged on Tuesday. All was well. But then Wednesday came. Wednesday is always my busiest day of the week, and last Wednesday was busier than most. I left the house at 9:30 am. Between 9:30am and 11:30pm I was home for a total of about two hours. Some of that time was spent in meetings and some of that time was spent in class/lab and some of that time was spent at press night and some of that time was spent at The Nickel Spot with my cool-ass boss who bought all of my 21 year-old coworkers and I beer. So I didn't blog Wednesday. I was a little busy.
But I was going to blog Thursday. I was going to write two blogs and do this tricky little thing that I may or may not have done a time or two before where I set the "published date" to the day I missed. But then Thursday came and I didn't write any blogs. I was really starting to feel like a big 'ol load of horse crap and the reality of Easter break was hitting me and I just wanted to sit and do nothing. So I sat, and with the exception of packing my bag to go home the next day, did nothing.
Friday came, and I was going to write all three blogs on my way to Owatonna with Luke to view apartments so we're hopefully not homeless once we graduate. I didn't write all three blogs in the car. And then, my friends, it was too late. Writing one or two blogs is doable. Even writing three blogs seems like not too much of a deal. But when Saturday came and I was in full blown sick mode. I woke up at 4 am with so much mucous crusting my eyes shut and making it impossible to breathe while I had 4 minute coughing attacks, and believe it or not, that didn't make me feel like writing 4 blogs.
So I decided to stop thinking about blogs. I decided that I would take some time off. After all, I'm doing this on my own dime and watch. When I had my internship at 5j last summer, I learned that in the real world sometimes things have to get pushed aside. That's not really an option in the world of academics. Either you finish your paper and turn it in, or you don't. (Or, if you are lucky enough to have a professor who actually accepts late work, it gets pushed aside for another day or two before you have to finish it.) You take the exam and you either pass or fail, but either way it's done.
In the real world, especially the creative real world that I was apart of, things sometimes don't get done when you want them to, but that doesn't mean you can't do them eventually. I knew I would come back to blogging eventually, but it was nice to hang out with my family and not have to worry about running off to my laptop to write a blog. Plus, once I get into the actual real world and not the internship real world, I might not even get a week of vacation--so I might as well take it while I can!
So, now, I have to decide what I'm going to do about the numbering of my blogs. I had always numbered each blog and it correlated with the number of days there had been in 2018. This is my 87th blog of 2018, but it is the 94th day of 2018. I'm quite indecisive. Check back tomorrow and to see what I decide.
